A clan is a social group of demons, acting as their community. Often the clan is referred to rather than a geographical area for demons. Clans are either big and stationary or small (sometimes only one or two big families) and mobile.
The clan typically acts as a vague family and it is speculated that the clan once held tighter unity before the sibling system was introduced - as it is an even older custom to leave children to be cared for communally. As a result of this ancient tightnes, clan members are perceived to have a responsibility to support the clan and not betray it (which is why treason is punished so hard). At the same time, previously mentioned sibling system has led to the attachment to the clan may come to conflict with the family attachment.
Demons who betray their clans are referred to as traitors, and are customarily punished by death according to tradition.
