Her immediate family was just below average-sized, but the Rileys had quite a huge extended family of dubious family members, friends and "reincarnated favourite enemies". While this meant that the family had many potential babysitters to choose from, most of these babysitters where very colourful in one way or another and easily overshadowed the relatively timid Kaley.
It is possibly that she preferred to be with her maternal grandmother because of this, as the two are often mentioned as the most level-headed family members. Then again, Martin is her godfather, which to the family implies that Alden is her godfather as well - those two have set out on a geas to make sure that Kaley and Nora don't get too traumatised by their parents.
Kaley continuously has to bear being compared to her mother because of their physical resemblance, something Kaley often anguish over, every so often bursting out "I am NOTHING like my mother! It's just skin-deep - I can't even cartwheel!".
Kay kept to a circle of magic users in Reuel College of Survival , often perceived as the do-gooders. One of these friends was Naz, whom she often worked with,
In a final attempt to get her autonomy from the reputation of her family, Kay left her home town, RCS, and everything else her parents had been in contact with. Instead, she began working at the sales department of a supplier of magical supplements to ISM. Eventually she worked her way up to manager and under her leadership the company struck a good deal with Kana-chan inc., gaining them a good foothold of the market.
Cin knows better than to tell her, but he is very proud of how his youngest daughter is conquering her world one step at a time - just like her daddy once tried. Cat and Nora secretly thinks that she should have used her illusions to become an entertainer, perhaps supported by Nora's manuscripts and Alex's concept sketches. Alex insist that they don't know what they are talking about.
Martin and Alden thinks that she could have stayed a little closer to home so that they could drag her home for dinner every other Sunday like the responsible godparents they are.
Kay looks a lot like Cat, to the point where it's easier to list the differences. Kay isn't remotely as slim as her mother (since Kay isn't nearly as obsessed with running around), lets her hair grow out into long curls and occasionally wears skirts.
Personality and traitsEdit
Looks isn't the only thing Kay shares with her mother, she also strives for freedom and adventures - only more peaceful than her parents. She can be rather autonomous and feels frustrated every time she is compares to her mother or expected to act as her mother just because they look so much alike.
She also enjoys helping others and is conceived as friendly as long as her parents aren't brought up.
There is an ambitious streak hidden underneath, a heritage from her father, that rarely shines through. If she is in a pinch she will not hesitate to do as her parents and use every means necessary to come out top-side. This includes heavy illusions and intuitive leadership, but also contacts in her social network. She is concrete and practical, but happily lets that talent go to waste for the sake of being herself rather than being her mother.
Abilities and skillsEdit
Though often overshadowed in her family, Kay does have her father's leadership abilities - heightened by the fact that she isn't a corrupt and power hungry demon but a sensitive and intuitive illusionist.
Kay is an illusionist, a kind of magic user that tricks the mind rather than actually changing anything. Most people mistakenly thinks that being practical and realistic is a hindrance for illusionists. On the contrary, Kay's focus helps her maintaining realistic illusions with high durability.
KALEY: Variant of KAYLEE; combination of KAY and the popular name suffix lee; short form of KATHERINE and other names beginning with K; from the Greek name Αικατερινη (Aikaterine). The etymology is debated: it could derive from the earlier Greek name ‘Εκατερινη (Hekaterine), which came from ‘εκατερος (hekateros) "each of the two"; it could derive from the name of the goddess HECATE; it could be related to Greek αικια (aikia) "torture"; or it could be from a Coptic name meaning "my consecration of your name". In the early Christian era it became associated with Greek καθαρος (katharos) "pure", and the Latin spelling was changed from Katerina to Katharina to reflect this.
SAMANTHA: Perhaps intended to be a feminine form of SAMUEL, using the name suffix antha (possibly inspired by Greek ανθος (anthos) "flower"); from the Hebrew name שְׁמוּאֵל (Shemu'el) which could mean either "name of God" or "God has heard".
RILEY: Originally derived from a place name meaning "rye clearing" in Old English.
